Giant pandas are native to the dense bamboo forests in the mountainous regions of central China, particularly in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. These forests provide the cool, moist environment they need and an abundant supply of bamboo, which makes up 99% of their diet. Giant pandas have become endangered due to habitat loss caused by deforestation, farming, and infrastructure development. This reduces their access to bamboo and isolates populations, making it harder for them to find mates. Climate change also threatens bamboo availability, further endangering their survival. Conservation efforts, including habitat protection and breeding programs, have helped improve their status to "vulnerable," but continued work is essential to ensure their future.
